BIG Pentagon Chapter of Blacks In Government®
Information Superhighway Student Competition (ISSC)
In an effort to generate greater interest in computers
among African American youth, Blacks In Government®
(BIG) is sponsoring its annual National Information Superhighway
Student Competition (ISSC) on Thursday, May 19, 2011, 6:00,
in Pentagon
Library and Conference Center at The Pentagon. As you
know, computer skills are essential to success in tomorrow's
global workplace. We are conducting a computer competition
for youth in grades nine through twelve. The competition
theme is, "Beating the Odds...Technology Empowering
African-American Males to Succeed!"
With the help of a variety of corporations and organizations,
we are promoting learning experiences and activities that
will result in a greater interest, awareness, and understanding
of computers among African American youth. Our more than
200 chapters in 11 regions will be working with local colleges
and universities to promote computer access for young people.
Students will compete locally, regionally, and nationally
to build the most creative and effective website on the
Internet. Called the "Information Superhighway Student Competition",
the contest provides youth the chance to develop computer
skills and demonstrate their expertise and creativity on
the information superhighway. It is the perfect arena for
them to show what they can do.
Here are links to the competition
guidelines, flyer,
brochure,
and letter
to Principal or Youth Coordinator. Please share the
contest information as we want to reach as many youth as
possible.
Blacks In Government® is a national response to the
need for African Americans to organize around issues of
mutual concern and to use our collective strength to address
workplace and community issues. BIG also is a national organization
of African American government workers committed to excellence
in government through equality of opportunity.
Applications must be received no later than May 14,
2011. The first, second and third place winners
will receive awards at each contest level. The first place
chapter winner will compete at the Regional ISSC Competition
in June 2011. The Regional winner will compete at the BIG
National ISSC Competition in August 2011, in Boston, MA.
