BIG Pentagon Chapter Thanksgiving Baskets 2010

The BIG Pentagon Chapter of Blacks In Government® will give ten Thanksgiving Baskets to needy families in 2011, with distribution scheduled for Friday, November 18, 2012. The ten baskets will be purchased through the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Chapel Helping Hands Christian Fellowship (HHCF) program.

Basket contents: One turkey, ham, 2 boxes of dressing, large can of yams, 2 boxes of mashed potatoes, gravy, two cans of greens or green beans, 1 cranberry sauce, 1lb bag bags of flour, 5lbs of sugar, 2lbs of rice, 2 boxes of macaroni and cheese, two jiffy corn bread mix, dessert, 1box of cake mix and icing, bag of fruit, and kool-aid.

NOTE: The Helping Hands Ministry purchases the food through a Food Share Program and does not know the exact items in the basket until the food is picked up. Therefore, the list we provided is subject to change without notice. However, each basket should be a complete Thanksgiving meal.Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Chapel supplements the program by ensuring each basket has a turkey and the Chapel adds additional food to it. The Thanksgiving baskets that we purchased through HHCF and provided in 2010 were three bags of food; including fish, chicken, and sausage. We anticipate to provide, at least this amount for 2011.

Criteria for receiving a Thanksgiving Basket from the BIG Pentagon Chapter: Any family nominated by a BIG Pentagon Chapter Member with a need for a Thanksgiving Basket. The Committee will base their selection on the size of family, family income situation, housing situation, order of nomination, and any other information provided. Thus, the Chapter member nominating a family needs to provide as much information as possible to support their nominee. Families can be nominated by emailing their information to Curtis Banks (curt.banks@osd.mil). Nominations for receipt of a Thanksgiving basket must be emailed to Curtis Banks by 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Click here for additional information.

Selection of Families to receive the Thanksgiving Baskets: A committee of at least three BIG Pentagon Chapter members will meetWednesday, November 16, 2011 and select ten families. The BIG Pentagon Chapter members that nominated the families will be notified on the same date after the Committee meets, via email.

Delivery of Baskets: HHCF will prepare the baskets Friday, November 18, 2011. The baskets will be available for pick-up at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (Main Chapel Center) 2:00 p.m - 3:00 pm. The BIG Pentagon Chapter members that nominated the families are responsible for the pick-up and delivery of the baskets.
