HISTORY
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Chapter of Blacks In Government
was established at NIH in June 1982 and was formally chartered by the National
Organization on September 4, 1982. Independently working with other chapters, and with the
expressed consent of the National BIG Organization, the NIH Chapter has directed its
efforts towards improving opportunities for African Americans at NIH. Chapter members and
those who subsequently joined have seen the need for a united body of members from
diversified backgrounds and all levels of education and positions at NIH.
