Working Together

AWARDS COMMITTEE

  • Develop and implement an awards program that recognizes individual and groups 
    in fulfilling the goals and objectives of Blacks in Government.

  • Oversee the receipt of nomination, evaluation and selection process for awards.

  • Submit award recommendations for NIH, Regional and National level awards to 
    Executive Committee for approval.

BYLAWS COMMITTEE

  • Assist the Parliamentarian in all duties assigned.

  • Ensure that the By-Laws conform with and have no conflict with the constitution 
    and By-Laws of Region XI and the National Organization.

  • Review amendments to the Chapter's By-Laws and report recommendations to 
    the Executive Committee.

  • Review the Chapter's By-Laws and when necessary, print and distribute to 
    all active members.

COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

  • Assist the Newsletter Editor in developing and maintaining a newsletter of 
    Chapter events projecting a positive image.

  • Establish and maintain a mechanism for the dissemination of information for the Chapter.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH COMMITTEE

  • Develop and institute programs designed to address a regular or ongoing involvement 
    with a community based organization.

  • Outreach program will have the concurrence of the Executive Committee and the 
    approval of the general  membership.

FINANCIAL COMMITTEE

  • Prepare and submit proposed budget for the next Calendar Year to the Executive 
    Committee for approval at the October meeting.

  • Disseminate copies of the approved budget to the members no later than January 1.

  • Assist the financial team in maintaining an account of all expenses against the approved 
    budget and submit a report at mid and end of year or more often when conditions warrant.

  • Make recommendations for solving the financial problems of the Chapter.

FUND RAISING COMMITTEE

  • Develop and implement approved plans to raise funds for Chapter activities.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

  • Develop and implement an on-going membership program which will be directed 
    at all levels of NIH employees.

  • Maintain an up-to-date roster of all members.

  • Provide membership package to all new members.

PROGRAM AND PLANNING COMMITTEE

  • Responsible for developing a comprehensive and on-going educational program 
    to address areas of concern (not limited to workshops, seminars and guest 
    speakers at Chapter meetings).

  • Responsible for preparing written reports of Chapter activities to the National 
    Organization on a biannual basis.

  • Responsible for maintaining a calendar of BIG events of the Regional 
    and National programs and serve as the coordinating component between 
    the Chapter, Region and National.

RESEARCH COMMITTEE

  • Evaluate NIH polices and procedures to determine their impact on Black employees.

  • Develop strategies/recommendations to evaluate and alleviate employee concerns.

  • Develop and present written resolutions, recommendations and proposals to 
    the Executive Committee.

YOUNG ADULT RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

  • Develop programs for the chapter to address the needs of and to develop opportunities 
    for African-American young adults who are employed at NIH.

  • Sponsored activities will specifically:

  1. attract young adults to scientific/NIH careers;

  2. develop a mentor program;

  3. enhance communication and leadership skills; and

  4. strengthen relationships between generations.
