TOP 10 REASONS TO JOIN BIG

1. BIG Works For You
BIG is the only organization dedicated to the interest of all people...However, African American public servants in particular.

2.  BIG is an Advocate

BIG members speak out on issues affecting the government workplace. Members of BIG testified before the Congress on legislation reforming the EEO process, racial discrimination in government, and spoke out on the disparate rate of discharge of African Americans from the federal service, the national performance review, and downsizing. BIG members held a hearing on the assault against Affirmative Action.

3.  BIG is an Employee Support Group
If you have a problem on the job, your BIG Chapter can be an excellent source for help and counsel. Many BIG members have had similar experiences and can suggest strategies for combating adversities. BIG also has a list of experienced attorneys who are willing to counsel and represent BIG members.

4. BIG is a Professional Development Organization

BIG sponsors a "National Training Conference" annually. Together under one venue are dynamically renowned National and International leaders and experts from around the world. They impart their expertise, knowledge, wisdom, guidance and motivational skills and energies which motivates all in attendance. The wide-range of ethnic governmental employees who attend the many workshops and training classes come away with renewed belief and faith in themselves; they are filled with the spirit of "yes I can!" Even when faced with people who say "no you can't!"

You are taught to "accentuate the positive and shake off the negative" which is what the late Ron Brown advocated at the 1995 National Training Conference.

5.  BIG is a Community Resource
Your BIG Chapter can be a strong force in the community. Many BIG Chapters help fight community problems such as drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, AIDS, and illiteracy. BIG promotes and assists in voter registration. The skills you develop on the job can be invaluable in promoting community activities through your BIG Chapter.
