How do I join?

Any person who in accord with the philosophy, principles, policies and objectives of this organization, and agrees to adhere to the same, may become a member of this organization with consent of the Board of Directors by paying the annual membership fee, provided he or she is qualified as stated herein

To join simply call or visit the Chapter’s Treasurer, Mike Tolbert, located in Room 4C-043 in the Wiley Building in College Park, MD (301) 436-1738. OR email him at: MTolbert@CFSAN.FDA.GOV

 For those individuals located in the SW Complex Area, simply call or visit Garrett Beaty, located in Room 5243 the Cohen/VOA (Voice of America) Building (330 Independence Avenue- SW - DC) (202) 619-0501. OR email him at: GBEATY@OIG.HHS.GOV

How often are meetings?

The HHS SW Complex Chapter meetings are held every third Thursday of the month.  Meetings are held at 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD 20740.  You may contact the Chapter Secretary, Dana Ballou, at 301-436-1698 for the room number.

What Leadership Opportunities are available?

In addition to the elected officers positions, i.e., President, 1st and 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Correspondence Secretary, Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer, Special Committee Chairpersons are solicited throughout the year.  Special Committees include Black History Month Celebration, Race for the Cure Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run, Annual Holiday So Others Might Eat (SOME) Food Drive, Annual Winter Annual Holiday Party, and Annual Summer Cookout

What has the chapter done for its members? 

We offer College scholarships for Washington Metropolitan Area students. The general membership (excluding the scholarship committee) family and friends are eligible to participate.

We offer various workshops throughout the year, which serve as enrichment and networking opportunities for our members.

Our chapter offers Membership Spotlights on our website, which not only shows the world what good things our members are doing in their current work environment but also affords individuals to network with other individuals in their field, advertise their businesses, etc.

Can I pay the Life Membership Fee in installments?

Yes, the fee can be paid  by installment payments, with the full payment completed in one year from the date of your first payment.  Payments must be a minimum of $25 dollars.  You must send your installment payments to the national office along with a copy of your original membership form, indicating "Life Membership Installment Payment" at the top of the form.  Please make your check or money order payable to: National Organization of Blacks In Government.  Please do not mail cash.

The national office also accepts MasterCard or Visa credit cards.  If you are paying by credit card, you can fax ([202] 667-3705) your membership form to the national office of Blacks In Government and Ms. Peggy Downing will contact you to obtain your credit card number and expiration date.

Please do not fax or mail your credit card number and expiration date.

Can I put information on the chapter’s website:

Members can request to have information placed on the chapter’s website, however, the executive committee reserves the right to deny any request.
