National Leadership & Achievement Awards Program

The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund/Black Issues in Higher Education National Educational Excellence Awards Program has been created to honor outstanding achievement by Historically Black colleges and universities in the area of service development that promotes student access and achievement. The awards also recognize corporate/community partnering fundraising and institutional development initiatives that extend the reach of awards will honor the presidential leadership in these exemplary student access, opportunity and outreach initiatives.
2000 HBCU Leadership & Achievement Award Recipients are
:(1) James M. Taylor, Associate Administrator, Office of Civil Rights, U.S. General Services Administrtation,
(2) Raymond Pierce, Deputy Asistant Secretary, Office of Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, and
(3) Cardell Cooper, Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and ?Development, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban 'Development
Ms. Andrea Roane, Co-Anchor, Channel 9 News was the 'Mistress of Ceremonies' for this years program, Welcoming remarks and Sponsor Acknowledgements were delivered by Mr. Dwayne Ashley, President, TMSF, Inc.
Sponsor Greetings were delivered by Ms. Sanya Ham, President, Benjamin Banneker Chapter of Blacks In government, Ms. Cecelia Davis, President, Latimer Chapter of Federally Employeed Women and Ms. Beverly Jackson, Vice President, Black Voices.Com.
The General Services Administration was well represented at this years awards program by a notable list of current and retired GSA employees and BBC members that included: Mr.Thurman Davis, Ms. Toni Lewis-Hazelwood, Mr. Floyd Parks, Ms.Viola Fisher, Ms. Felicia Gibson, Ms. Carolyn Green and Mr. Lawrence F. King, Sr.
The Benjamin Banneker Chapter/BIG was recognized, as a noteworthy TMSF sponsor, at this year's Awards Program. Thanks everyone who participated and gave support to the chapter in this worthwhile Community Service Program event.
