Community Leadership Awards Programs

The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund/Black Issues in Higher Education National Educational Excellence Awards Program has been created to honor outstanding achievement by Historically Black colleges and universities in the area of service development that promotes student access and achievement.  The awards also recognize corporate/community partnering fundraising and institutional development initiatives that extend the reach of awards will honor the presidential leadership in these exemplary student access, opportunity and outreach initiatives.

 Mr. Thurman M. Davis, Sr., Deputy Administrator, U.S. General Services Administration, was one of the recipients of this year's HBPCU Community Leadership Award.  Mr. Davis is also a valued member of the Benjamin Banneker Chapter of Blacks In Government at GSA.

Other recipients at this years program included William L. Jews, President & CEO CareFirst, Inc. Blue Cross and Blue Shield; Roland M. McClaron, President, McClaron & Associates, LLC; Julius F. Nimmons, Jr., Ph..D., Former President, University of the District of Columbia;  James Thompson, manager of Corporate Relations (retired), Miller Brewing Company, and Jeffrey E. Thompson, CEO, Thompson, Cobb and Bazilio.

"Master of Ceremonies" for this year's program was Mr. Juan Williams, Author, Journalist, TV Host.

Sponsor Greetings were delivered by Ms. Sanya Ham, President, Benjamin Banneker Chapter of Blacks In government, Ms. Cecelia Davis, President, Latimer Chapter of Federally Employed Women, representing African-American and female Associates, respectively, at the General Services Administration.

Other notable guest attending this year's program  included: Administrator of the  U. S. General Services Administration - Mr. Stephen A. Perry and wife, and National President of  Blacks In Government - Mr. Gerald R. Reed, .

The Benjamin Banneker Chapter/BIG is recognized, as a noteworthy sponsor of TMSF and its programs.   Thanks to all members of BBC and other GSA Associates who participate in this year's Awards Program and gave support to the chapter in this worthwhile Community Service Program event.
