Dear BBC/GSA Member,
The Benjamin Banneker Chapter {BBC} of Blacks In Government {BIG} announces the official results of its annual chapter elections conducted on Thursday, November 15, 2001.
Exclusive of any specific guidelines and timeframes for conducting Chapter elections in the BBC Bylaws, this election followed, in general principle, the Nominations and Elections guidelines outlined in Article VIII, Nominations and Elections, Section 1, of the National Constitution of Blacks In Government.
The following BBC Members, in good standing, were elected to serve as 2002-2003 officers for the Benjamin Banneker Chapter {BBC} of Blacks In Government {BIG}:
President : Ms Sanya H. Ham Recording Secretary: Ms. Sandra Powell
Treasurer: Ms. Anita Connelly-Daniels

The term of office for the newly elected officers shall be: January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2003
DUTIES OF ELECTED OFFICERS
President (Elected). the President shall guide the implementation of programs that have been approved by the Executive Committee and the general membership; shall recommend to the Executive Committee and the general membership changes in programs and procedures; countersign with the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer (in the absence of the treasurer) checks drawn on the chapter's treasury; shall receive reports on activities of the various committees; and shall make appointments as necessary. and shall present the chapter's annual status report on chapter activities during the previous year.
The President shall serve as the sole official representative and spokesperson for the chapter.
The President shall serve as Chair of the Executive Committee and shall be an ex-officio member of all committees except the Nomination and Election Committees.
The President, by virtue of his/her position, automatically serves as one of the chapter's Representatives to the Region XI Council.
Recording Secretary (Elected). The Recording Secretary shall maintain the official record of all the proceedings of the chapter in the 'Journal of Proceedings'; shall produce such records upon request of any member in good standing; shall read the minutes of the previous meeting at each Executive Committee and general membership meeting; shall maintain and distribute to the general membership, at least quarterly, an updated membership roster; shall be responsible for circulating a sign-in sheet at all meetings; and shall perform the duties and functions of the Corresponding Secretary during his/her absence or incapacitation.
Treasurer (Elected). The Treasurer shall be chief financial officer of the organization; shall countersign with the President or Vice President and Membership Chairperson (as appropriate) all checks and requisitions for the disbursement of organization funds; shall provide financial statements as often as required, but at least quarterly, to the Executive Committee and Chapter Members.
The Treasurer shall prepare and submit a written financial report, at least monthly, at the scheduled Executive and General Membership; shall be responsible for the final preparation of the Annual Budget.
The Treasurer's books shall be subjected to audit annually, by an independent source selected by the Executive Committee and approved by the general membership.
