Dear BBC/GSA Member,
The Benjamin Banneker Chapter {BBC} of Blacks In Government {BIG} announces the official results of its annual chapter elections conducted on Thursday, November 16, 2000.
Exclusive of any specific guidelines and timeframes for conducting Chapter elections in the BBC Bylaws, this election followed, in general principle, the Nominations and Elections guidelines outlined in Article VIII, Nominations and Elections, Section 1, of the National Constitution of Blacks In Government.
The following BBC Members, in good standing, were elected to serve as 2001-2002 officers for the Benjamin Banneker Chapter {BBC} of Blacks In Government {BIG}:
Vice President : Ms Felicia Gibson; Assistant Treasurer : Ms. Wanda Nolan; Corresponding Secretary : Ms. Avis Ryan: BBC Chapter Representatives to the RXI Council: Ms. Sandi Dotson and Mr. Lawrence F. King, Sr.
DUTIES OF ELECTED OFFICERS
Vice-President (Elected). In the absence of the President or in the event of disability of the President, the Vice-President shall perform all the duties and functions of the President. During such a period, the Vice-President shall have all the powers of and be subject to all the restrictions placed upon the President. The Vice-President, by virtue of his/her leadership role, shall serve as the Chairperson of the chapter's Program and Planning Committee.
Corresponding Secretary (Elected). The Corresponding Secretary shall be responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and sign-off with the President, on chapter correspondence and requisitions for the disbursement of funds; shall schedule meeting rooms and issue notification of meetings; and perform the duties and functions of the Recording Secretary during his/her absence or incapacitation.
The Corresponding Secretary shall maintain in safe custody the organization seal, chapter logo and banner, and be empowered to affix such seal and logo to all contracts and instruments to be executed by the chapter, shall arrange for the display of the chapter banner at all chapter events, meetings and programs.
Assistant Treasurer (Elected). The Assistant Treasurer shall maintain a record of all dues-paying members and submit notification of renewals when due; shall provide for collection of dues, and shall report on the status of paid-up memberships. In case of absence or disability of the Treasurer, the Assistant Treasurer shall perform all the duties of the Treasurer*
*During such a period, the Assistant Treasurer shall have all the powers of and be subject to all the restrictions placed upon the Treasurer. The Assistant Treasurer shall serve as a participating, voting member of the chapter's Membership Committee.
NOTE: Newly elected chapter officers will be sworn in at the chapter's regular membership meeting in January 2001 to serve their "Term of Office" - January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2002. (Date, time and place of meeting:TBA)
