2000 HOLIDAY DINNER/AWARDS CEREMONY

Banneker Chapter!!
The Benjamin Banneker Chapter (BBC) of Blacks In
Government (BIG) was a recipient of the 'Chapter Involvement Award' at this years 'Region
XI Holiday Dinner and Awards Ceremony', held at the Holiday Inn Westpark Hotel in Rosslyn,
Virginia, on Saturday, December 9, 2000.
The chapter was recognized for its outstanding contributions during the year, in
support of the 2000 National Training Conference (NTC), the Region XI Council and
activities at the chapter level:
- BBC members served as Deputy Chair of the 2000 NTC (Ms. Claire Cashwell),
Chairpersons of the Automation (Mr. Lawrence F King, Sr.), Career Fair (Ms,
Felicia Gibson), Hospitality (Ms. Viola Fisher) and Workshop (Ms. Jannett
Dyson) Committees during this year's National Training Conference.
- Chapter members also served as Deputy/Co-Chairs and key members of a number of
Committees and participated in a number of NTC activities and events in support of the
2000 NTC: (Ms. Claire Cashwell, Mr. Herman Clemmons, Ms. Deloris Cohen, Ms. Anita
Daniels-Connely, Ms. Cecelia Davis, Ms. Felicia Gibson, Ms. Carolyn Green, Ms. Sanya Ham,
Mr. Newton Hopper, Ms. Viola Jones, Mr. Lawrence F. King, Sr., Ms. Rosa McCullough, Ms.
Adelyne Moseby, Ms Wanda Nolan, Ms. Helen Payton, Ms. Sandra Powell, and Ms. Mattie Young.
This listing recognizes, but does not include the names of additional BBC members who
volunteered their services and support during the 2000 NTC.
- BBC also partnered with the key managers of the General Services Administration to plan,
coordinate and execute the GSA 'Agency Forum' and 'Networking Session' at
the 2000 National Training Conference (Ms. Sanya Ham and Mr. Lawrence F. King, Sr.

- Chapter members were also successful in procuring the use of GSA computers, faxes,
printers and laptops during the 2000 NTC (Ms Sanya Ham and Ms. Claire Cashwell).
- BBC members also volunteered their services and helped operate* the BIG
Membership Booth at this year's Congressional Black Caucus Convention and Exhibit.

- At the Region XI Council, BBC members serve as the Recording Secretary (Ms.
Sandi Dotson) and Co-Chair of the RXI Hospitality Committee (Ms. Felicia
Gibson).
- BBC's Chapter Representatives to the RXI Council attended all regular meetings
and fully participate in the business of the council. (Ms. Sandi Dotson, Ms. Sanya Ham
and Mr. Lawrence F King, Sr.),
- Chapter Representatives and selected members attended the President's 6-month Plan
Dinner/Meeting, RXI's Annual Outing at NASA (23 tickets sold), and sent two*
of its Chapter Representatives to RXI Council's Officer Training Sessions (Ms. Claire
Cashwell, Ms. Sandi Dotson, Ms. Sanya Ham* and Mr. Lawrence F King, Sr.*).
- BBC members attended Congressional Hearings (EEOC and Discrimination in the
Federal Government), public marches and protests on Capital Hill (Discrimination
in the U. S. Supreme Court, Against the Impeachment of the President and Million Family
March) in support of the goals and objectives of BIG, Region XI and RXI Chapters. (Ms

- At the chapter level, BBC is a noted sponsor and participates in activities and programs
of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF), provides food baskets to needy families,
and donates needed articles and gifts to orphanage and community based social groups and
organizations. Chapter member participate is this year's TMSF Award Program. (Ms.

- The chapter members in collaboration with GSA managers and FEW planned and executed
agency-wide programs in recognition Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday and Black History
Month. (Ms. Claire Cashwell, Ms Celelia Davis, Ms. Sanya Ham, Ms. Viola

- BBC, individually or in collaboration with Federal Employed Women (FEW) sponsors
fundraising projects to support their organizations activities and programs, i.e. One Day
Bus Trip to Delaware. (Ms. Leticia Boddie)

Ms. Claire Cashwell, BBC member, received a Special
Award for her significant contributions as the Deputy Chairperson, 2000

Mr. Lawrence F King, Sr. and Ms. Sanya Ham won cash prizes during the raffle held at
the end of the awards ceremony.
