She was educated in the District of Columbia School System, graduating in the top ten percent of her High School (William McKinley Technical) Class. She attended the University of the District Columbia and received a Bachelors Degree in Computer Information System of Science in 1984.

Ms Young is currently employed at the U.S. Department of State as a Information System Security Officer /Information Specialist. Her expertise in the computer field has given her the opportunity to travel worldwide to places such as: Minsk, Belarus; Cairo, Egypt; Rome, Italy; Bangkok, Thailand; Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Athens, Greece. Her responsibilities range from design and building to configuring and installing various hardware and software products for our Federal Government affiliates. Ms Young is an Information System Security Officer (ISSO).

Some of the highlights in Ms. Young's career include serving as the Wang System Administrator for the United Nations in New York in 1991. She also served as main technological support for President Clinton and the U. S. Congressional Delegation on their historic visit to Dakar, Senegal in 1998.

During her career Ms. Young has received many awards in her field including recognition in the International Who's Who of Professional and Business Women of 2000, 2004 Meritorious Honor Award and numerous Franklin Awards from the U.S. Department of State.

Ms. Young is an active member of the Washington City Church of the Brethren located in Washington, D.C. She accredits most of her growth and success in the business arena to the church. "I believe that involvement in the things of God prepares you to overcome the many obstacles life has to offer. A connected spiritual life can help you to achieve anything you set your mind to." Ms. Young has a great love for young people and served as a Sunday school teacher for ten years, dedicating herself to the growth and development of children from toddlers to youth. She is currently serving as Moderator and Chairperson of the Administrative Council and is a member of the Scholarship, Finance and Pastoral Committees.

Ms. Young is a member of the NAACP, the National Council of Negro Women, AFGE Local Union 1534, Virginia Schlotzhauer, District of Columbia Chapter Six of the American Institute of Parliamentarians and the Carl T. Rowan Chapter of Blacks In Government. She has been a member of BIG since 1997 with many accomplishments to her credit on the local, regional and national levels. Her work and endeavors in BIG led her to become a Life Member as she is committed to the goals and objectives of the organization, which are, "equity, excellence and opportunity for all."
